Igembe South MP Paul Mwirigi has been charged with obstruction of police and helping a prisoner to escape.

The MP was arrested yesterday for allegedly inciting motorists not to follow the Michuki rules.

The prosecutor has opposed Mwirigi’s release over public unrest.

Mwirigi hit the headlines last year after he toppled political big wigs in the area to win the parliamentary seat.

He was famously known for campaigning with a sweater and moving about his campaigns without a car.

He got his first car, when president Uhuru Kenyatta awarded him a prado during a Jubilee meeting.
