Kenyans use ‘Panya-routes’ to enter, leave Nairobi (Video)
Several passengers and motorists were on Monday night left stranded after they were barred from entering Nairobi county.
On Monday President Uhuru Kenyatta issued an order barring movement into and out of the Nairobi metropolitan area.
A huge snarl-up was witnessed along major access roads in the county and a huge number were forced to spend the night on the road.
On Tuesday morning, a section of Kenyans used a myriad of tricks to escape and enter the city area.
Along Thika Highway, oblivious police effected President Kenyatta’s order by mounting roadblocks at the Blue Post Hotel near Thika town.
However, travelers used public transport vehicles up to Blue post Hotel where the roadblocks have been mounted then trekked about 500 meters via a ‘Panya-route’ to cross over to either side of the roadblock.
There are also vehicles on either side of the roadblocks allowing travelers to continue their journey in and out of Nairobi.
In Kangundo, a similar incident was recorded where hundreds of residents who work in Nairobi resorted to using informal footpaths to escape the police roadblock placed on the main highway.
