Kenyans Read Mischief As Mutyambai Fails To Name Interdicted Officers
Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai has interdicted the four police officers who were caught on camera assaulting students from the Jommo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.
The IG however failed to name the officers in the attacks despite the interdiction raising eyebrows on social media.
Mutyambai says that the four officers whose names have been withheld have been interdicted as per the police service procedures.
“The National Police Service wishes to inform that the four officers who were caught on camera meting excessive force on a JKUAT student have been identified and consequently interdicted from the service as per police procedures,” he stated.
A section of Kenyans have however asked the IG to name the officers to confirm that the interdiction was effective.
“This is a PR statement to quench the anger of Kenyans demanding action against criminality, and lack of professionalism within the police service. We need the names and identities of the alleged interdicted officers. Proof is the solution, nothing less,” wrote Geoffrey Odhiambo on Twitter.
“Kindly post their names and the service numbers to public so that we confirm the truth! Otherwise thanks for the information,” stated Ochwallo George.
“We want names and proof of action!” wrote Mr. Cube.
“Don’t they have identities?! Wacheni kutuenjoy!!’ said Kenfrey Justus.
Mutyambai had today morning ordered investigations into the videos doing rounds on social media showing police officers attacking students at JKUAT.
The students were protesting the rising cases of insecurity in the institution and the surrounding areas.
The protests led to the indefinite closure of the institution.
