Kenya Railways ordered to reduce fares

Cabinet Secretary of Transport James Macharia has directed the Kenya Railways Corporation to reduce fares by 10 percent following the transport crisis occasioned by the matatu strike.

In a media statement the CS has further ordered the corporation to increase the number and frequency of commuter trains on all routes.

“Kenya Railways corporation is hereby directed to increase the number and frequency of commuter trains on all routes and also reduce fares by 10% until the normal public transport services resume,” read the statement.

According to the CS, this will enable the public continue with their day to day activities of Nation Building.

Macharia further asked the public to support the the government’s efforts of improving road safety in order to realize the longterm benefits for all Kenyans.
