Kenya Footballers Welfare Association (KEFWA) Chairman Innocent Mutiso has lauded the Independent Disciplinary and Complaints Committee (IDCC) ruling on AFC Leopards to pay the eight “wrongfully” dropped players.
Mutiso has been at the forefront in pushing for the case against the club terming the dismissal of the players unprocedural.
“Initially we approached the club with a bid to solve the issue amicably but there was no positive response”
A situation that prompted Mutiso to take the case to the disciplinary committee.
“We took it as matter of agency” Mutiso told Ghetto Radio.
“I felt AFC Leopards Management treated the Players unfairly. It is wrong for a club to dismiss players in bulk”
“Despite the clubs being allowed to terminate a player’s contract, there isn’t any clause stating that a player should be dismissed due to under-performance”
The eight players-Solomon Nasio, Khalid Jumaan, Eugene Musilwa, Mata Clement, Kevin Aketch, Simon Shikuku, Emmanuel Onyancha and Daniel Kiptoo, were dropped by head coach Ivan Minnnaert in April 2016 who deemed them surplus to requirements at the club despite their contracts still running.
The ruling gave AFC Leopards upto Friday this week to pay the Ksh 2.14 Million which is total salary arrears.
“There is also another ruling on Friday concerning damages to the players where we expect a total sum of Ksh 11 Million to be paid”.
“This should come as a warning to other clubs who fail to follow procures when dismissing players”.
