KCSE Candidate in Migori County took her own life after performing below her parents’ expectations in the 2017 examination.
Carren Ouma, 22, who sat her exams at Moi Nyabohanse Girls High School plunged herself into a borehole after scoring a C minus.
“She first sat her exams at Osingo Secondary before moving to a school in Kuria and still ended up getting the same grade,” he said.
Migori County Police Boss Joseph Nthenge said preliminary investigations established that Carren’s parents had picked a quarrel with her about her performance.
Mr. Nthenge said the parents blamed her for not performing ‘well’ in the examination despite sitting for the KCSE examination for the second time, a quarrel he said might have pushed the candidate to commit suicide.
The county police boss urged parents of candidates who have just received their KCSE results to avoid putting their children under unnecessary pressure due to their performance.
