KCB ladies’ volle
KCB ladies’ volleyball team maintained their dominance in the national scene with a great KVF triumph over debutants DCI team at Bungoma Airstrip on Friday 23rd March 2018.
The Vernon Khayinga squad pressed with service to win the first two sets as DCI narrowly won the 3rd set. They rallied from the deficit to win a record fourth set. The 3-1victory was sweet for the coach.
” It is a great victory for KCB, the new six players shone quite well as it was evident during the match, we are now set on building from this victory in the remaining encounters this year”, said KCB Head Coach Vernon.
The team started well with captain Gladys Wairimu earning the team 8 points to see them leading 8-0 before eventually winning first set 25-19 followed by 25-16. DCI capitalized on the strong winds to grab the next set by 25-21.
KCB stormed back improving on back court defence and blockings during the 4th set. Pauline Nyongesa stood out with final two blocking that saw KCB win the final set 25-21.
The difference in ability and execution from the team was minuscule, and they battled back and forth in a match befitting the sport’s giants.
KCB who are targeting the Africa Club championship in 2018 are optimistic of more victories ahead of the Bungoma county tournament which serves off on Saturday morning at the same venue.
The team hopes lies in the concentration and compactness of the squad as they prepare to battle for a major trophy on Sunday in a final that could pit them against top teams should lady luck smile on them over the next two days.
