Over 36 drivers will battle for top honours as Rally action returns to Nanyuki town after two years absence during the weekend of August 27 2016.
The rally will be flagged off by Laikipia County Governor H.E Joshua Irungu outside KCB Nanyuki branch at 7:00 am on Saturday.
KCB Director Logistics Asiko Owiro says the bank is proud to have seen such a big growth in motorsport industry.
“It is very much fulfilling to see where we are today in Motorsport. Through our sponsorship the rallies have become an inspiration and a source of empowerment for men and women across the country, ” said Asiko.
The first car rev off Nanyuki town at 7:00 am with the first five cars being flagged at an interval of 3 minutes, while the next cars will be flagged off at an interval of 1 minutes.
Current KNRC Leader Finland’s ace Tapio Laukannen and his navigator Pasi Torma will be looking forward to another great year of rallying after winning in KCB Voi outing.
Baldev Chagger who was the overnight leader in Elementaita before rolling, will be navigated by Ravi Soni in a Mitsubishi Evo X aiming to return back to winning in Nanyuki.
“As always we will try do the best we can and get the maximum points, the two previous outings weren’t really good for us especially in Voi and I have learnt to be patient especially in this outing.” said Chagger.
The 2WD championship will see Erick Bengi testing out his new machine aiming to return back to the top of the standings in a field that will be heavily contested by Alex Lairang’i, Sammy Nyorri and Leonardo Varese.
Natasha Tundo of the Rally Chixs Kenya is the current division three leader with 89 points ahead of Chandrakant Devji who has 66 points.
“I really look forward to driving in Nanyuki, we will be out to see how our car adapts murram surface and we will not let our guard down to extend the lead in division 3 standings”
Mombasa based driver Paras Pandya will be eying to improve n his performance after upgrading from a Subaru N 10 to Mitsubishi Evolution 10 purchased from Latvia.
The Chairman of Nanyuki Rally Group Bimal Patel says it’s all systems go for the motorsport action that will see drivers covers a total distance of 330 Kms.
“We have created a new 50 km section inside Loldaiga and it’s going to be very exciting, it’s all murram surface with many twists and the experience is unforgettable for any driver”, said Bimal.
The rally drivers will tackle the famous Loldaiga and Lengetia private farms before heading to the Batian View spectator stage three times.
The drivers will cover CS 1 distance of 2.4 KM heading into the Batian View spectator stage. The first car is expected in Loldaiga at 7:35 am after which the drivers will head into the Batian view by8:43 am, return to the service park before covering the Lengetia stretch at 10 o’clock.
The rally itinerary indicates that the first car will head to Batian view for the second time at 11:31get back into Service Park before covering the Loldaiga.
The scrutineering will be held on 26th august at the Sports Arms Hotel in Nanyuki, with reconnaissance taking place on the same day. The provisional results will announced at 16:30 on Saturday followed by prize giving later at the Batian View.
The colorful event will be graced by both Miss Nanyuki and Miss Laikipia at the Batian View.The battle for the podium finish pits Tapio Laukannen who is currently tying with Jaspreet Chatthe with 79 points, Rajbir Rai, Baldev Chager and Ian Duncan. The KCB Nanyuki action will witness stellar performances with various speed merchants plotting the downfall of each other.
