Former Nairobi County Women representative aspirant Karen Nyamu has asked the government to declare cancer a national disaster.
Nyamu who is also a cancer ambassador has also asked the government to have cancer screening centres in all counties as well as free treatment centers.
“CS for health Sicily Kariuki declared she did not have enough data to declared cancer a national disaster while the country is being a cancer country claiming a lot of lives. We are wondering why did they not ask cancer related questions in the national centers,” asked Nyamu.
Nyamu says this can be achieved by a universal healthcare system that will ensure all Kenyans access healthcare without financial constrains.
“We want quality screenings to the mashinani, to the woman and the poorest of all Kenyans,’ she said.
She further criticised the national government for cheering the BBI, and referendum politics instead of ensuring that Kenya is a a cancer free nation.
