Jubilee Picks Former Nairobi MP To Replace Elachi
The Jubilee Party has nominated former Makadara law maker Benson Mutura as their candidate for the speaker position, a post that fell vacant after Beatrice Elachi resigned on Tuesday morning.
Jubilee Party Secretary General Raphael Tuju says the decision was reached after wide consultations with the party leadership and is meant to bring a good working relationship in the county.
‘‘We have made serious consultations with Members of the County Assembly and party leadership within Nairobi and we have zeroed in on Mr. Benson Mutura as Jubilee candidate. The other four candidates can still go and appeal to members in the house tomorrow,’ Tuju said.
Mutura will now face former Kware MCA Ken Ngondi, Allan Chacha Mangera, Abdi Ali, Mike Obonyo Guoro and former chief officer for Nairobi county government Dr. Washington Makodingo.
Meanwhile Jubilee Mcas led by Kariobangi North MCA Maina Njoka welcomed the move saying they will vote Mutura in and ensure that they give him maximum cooperation as their speaker.
‘‘We are happy with the party direction and to all MCAs let’s work together and end this mess that was created by former speaker,’’ Njoka said.
