Jevanjee Residents To Sue Nairobi County Government Over Impending Eviction
Jevanjee residents who are facing eviction to pave way for Nairobi Urban Renewal Project have now threatened to move to court to stop the county from evicting them until they reach a mutual agreement.
In an interview with Ghetto Radio News JevaQuaters Association secretary Leonard Obonyo claim that the county has up to date not engaged them conclusively for the them to move yet they have received a 30 day notice.
‘‘How do you give somebody a notice in the middle of talks ,this is unacceptable and we shall not allow it..governor Sonko must know that we also have our rights,’’ he said.
According Obonyo they were to agree on mode of compensation and how they will secure their house in return and all this has been given a wide berth by the county government.
‘‘They are talking about issuing Ksh. 600,000, whom did they consult? I mean this is unacceptable and everybody saw what happened in Pangani.’’ Obonyo stated.
80 families will be affected and they have until December 15th to move out of Jevanjee estate.
