The final round of trials for upcoming footballers courtesy of Betting company Betway took place on Saturday October 29 with 800 aspiring footballers aged between 18 and 24 from across the country taking part at GOAN Institute Football Grounds Nairobi.
The inaugural talent search that was launched last month came to its last bit after a selection of 16 (2 goalkeepers and 14 infield) players having been tested under the watchful eye of local and international scouts.
The Betway sponsored event saw 1600 young talents participate with the selection of the first batch conducted in October 15 and 16.
The lucky winner will land a specialized football training camp in West Ham United in the United Kingdom for a “West Ham Experience” which will include training, sightseeing, a live match and player meet and greets.
The Betway Talent Search is aimed at developing an exciting generation of football stars and offer them the right exposure to the soccer world.I would love to see Kenyan players on the African continent and I believe this country is capable of producing top-level footballers”,said Wanja Gikonyo country Manager.
Mathare United Head Coach Francis Kimanzi who was also taking the session in the trials was impressed with what he saw from the young players and lauded Betway for coming up with the initiative aimed at giving the untapped talent an opportunity to grow in football.
“It has been a good process that has also eased the process of searching for fresh players so far, having selected new talents who may also qualify for the League clubs in the country. It very impressive.”
