Jubilee leaders from Nairobi County will mobilize their supporters to counter protests by the opposition against the Independent Boundaries and Electoral Commission (IEBC).
Dagoretti South MP, Dennis Waweru said they will ask Jubilee supporters to take to the streets next week when CORD leaders will be holding their protests to kick out IEBC officials, to protect business people in the city.
Waweru said several business people in the city are counting heavy losses after the violent protesters last Monday looted their property.
“As leaders from the county, we will mobilize our supporters to protect business owners in the CBD. We shall not just sit and watch as criminals riot, loot property and destroy lives,” said Waweru, who is also the Central Kenya Parliamentary Group chairman
“We shall take it upon ourselves to safeguard businesses because police are seemingly overwhelmed,” he added.
The MP made the remarks after officiating the relaunch of National Youth Service (NYS) projects in his constituency Thursday.
However Nairobi County police boss Japhath Koome has assured the opposition supporters they will meet come Monday during the anti IEBC protest.
