I Saved Habiba From DCI Who Were Investigating Her, Says Elachi
Nairobi assembly speaker Beatrice Elachi has defended herself over decision to declare the seat of jubilee nominated MCA Habiba Hussein vacant saying the matter was fast instigated by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation before she intervened just to protect the integrity of the member.
According to Elachi she had to plead with DCI to let the assembly probe the matter internally through powers and privileges committee but Habiba never wrote or appeared before the committee to defend herself.
“I want to tell those women and anybody condemning me that I really helped her, we have just released her because we did not want her surcharged… We have also not asked her to return the Ksh 132,000 monthly payment that we have been giving her the last two years,” she said.
A letter by DCI Regional Coordinator Bernard Nyakwaka to the office of the Nairobi County Assembly had requested Elachi to equip the DCI with certified copies of of the County Assembly attendance register and all documents in relation to the appointment of Habiba Hussein as an MCA.
“This office is undertaking investigations over an alleged un-ethical and corrupt appointments of officials to various positions within the county. For the sole purpose of carrying out investigations, we are requesting your office with the under listed documents,” read the letter dated 21st February 2020.
Elachi further slammed nominated senator Millicent Omanga who claimed that Elachi did not consider the health status of Habiba but instead advised her not to poke her nose on matters she is not aware of.
“Omanga is doing more harm to Habiba if Omanga wantws us to go the DCI way then we are much prepared…because it is difficult to defend somebody who has not even written to us stating where she has been in the past years yet she in the payroll,” she added.
Omanga took to the social media defending Habiba and further accusing Elachi of not being considerate.
