A 21-year-old woman accused of fatally stabbing her boyfriend 22 times was Thursday crowned Miss Lang’ata Prisons 2016.
Ruth Wanjiru Kamande beat 19 others and emerged the fairest of all at the just concluded annual event.
The prosecution that landed Miss Kamande in remand states that on September 19 2015 at Buru Buru, Kamande stabbed Farid Mohammed after finding a love message on his phone from another woman before attempting suicide.
Miss Kamande never pleaded guilty of the charged crime against her thou Mohammed sustained stab wounds on his back, stomach, chest and neck.
“Tina Martin, a Tanzanian facing drug smuggling charges emerged first runners up while Susan Wairimu, whose case of robbery with violence and murder, is yet to be completed came third.
Nairobi Women’s Representative Rachael Shebesh, who was the Chief Guest, offered to pay bail for 20 inmates who are in remand but have been unable to pay bond.They will walk free on Thursday as their cases continue in court,” reported Nairobinews.co.ke
“It does not make sense to remand petty offenders like these ones just because they cannot pay bail because it contributes to congestion in the prisons, Hopefully you will keep out of trouble as your cases continue,” nairobinews.nation.co.ke further quoted Shebesh.
