The High Court has suspended the criminal prosecution of Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu until the issues raised by her lawyers are heard and determined.

High Court Judge Chacha Mwita ruled that the issues raised by Mwilu’s lawyers are weighty.

Mwilu who was arrested on Tuesday afternoon is facing several charges of tax evasion, abuse of office and bribery.

Mwilu’s lawyer James Orengo described the arrest of the country’s second in command in the Judiciary as a political witch hunt and an attack on the Judiciary.

According to Orengo, the charges leveled against Mwilu are mere commercial transactions that took place five years ago.
