Heroine and Methadone addicts in Mathare slums have been left stranded without help for recovery after the government demolished drug dens in Mathare yesterday.

The government yesterday conducted a raid in Mathare’s Nigeria area where several structures believed to be drug dens were destroyed.

The addicts who spoke to Ghetto radio News say the have been left stranded without any source of help from the government.

A lady who spoke on anonymity says they would mostly access heroine and methadone from the dens.

“I stay in Nigeria area in Mathare, the demolitions left us without even a place to live in. So we are currently stranded. Our bodies are used to Heroine, we will now be forced to go back to Methadone, ” she said.

Methadone is a narcotic medication. Methadone reduces withdrawal symptoms in people addicted to heroin or other

The mother of two says in a day she would spend at least 1,000 shillings which she would get from selling stolen stuff.

“I am forced to do shoplifting to sustain this lifestyle. I do not have a choice,” she says.
