A Section of hawkers in Nairobi’s Umoja area are lamenting unlawful arrests and harassment by county council officers.

The hawkers claim that the county officers popularly known as kanjo in turn demand money from them in order to secure their release.

Most of the victims are traders hawking sweets and gums by the roadside.

“Whe arrested, they demand that you give them Sh. 60,000. Now  for a person who makes a meager Sh. 100 per day, where do they expect us to get such amount of money?” asked one of the traders.

“When we voted for Sonko’s government, we hoped that things will change for small scale traders. Unfortunately things are becoming worse. Where are you ,” added another trader.

They are now appealing on Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko to intervene and save them from the rogue officers.
