Hawkers  operating along Mombasa road have raised an alarm over an alleged mistreatment by Nairobi county Askaris.

The hawkers have accused the county askaris popularly known as kanjos, and the langata police officers of illegal arrests and mistreatment.

Speaking to Ghetto Radio News the affected hawkers said the police and  county askaris have turned the nearby AIC church into a holding cell  where hawkers  are being  held after arrest until they pay a certain amount in bribes.

The hawkers said the bribes ranges between sh 1500 to ksh. 3000 cash.

The hawkers are now calling on governor Mike Sonko to move with speed and intercept the rogue county officers who are using the police to harass them along the busy Mombasa road.

Effort to reach head of Inspectorate Tito Kilonzi over the matter did not pay off.
