Kenya women’s National team Harambee Starlets Continued their good run of results with an empathetic 4-0 victory over Burundi progressing to the semi-finals of CECAFA Women’s challenge in a dramatic clash at Njeru Technical Institute,Jinja Uganda.
The match that was played on Tuesday 13 saw Nedy Atieno netting two goals at 29 and 47 minutes whereas as Mary Kinuthia and Esse Mbeyu Akida scored at 32 and 45 minutes giving Kenya a second win in a row.
Initially the match seemed tough for both sides having won their previous matches.Kenya beat Uganda 4-0 at the kick-off of the tournament while Burundi thrushed Zanzibar 10-1.
But the David Ouma coached side continued to press on after Nedy Atieno took advantage of a chance when Burundi failed to defend a corner kick giving Kenya the first lead.
Confident Starlets did not waste much of a time with Mary Kinuthia netting a second goal three minutes later to stretch their lead over Burundi which was followed by Esse Akida’s goal exactly at the break.
Ouma’s charges stormed into their winning campaign with Nedy scoring a brace three minutes past halftime.
The AFCON bound Harambee Starlets will be facing Zanzibar on Thursday hoping to top group A table as they will be in search of one point.
