Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonkos’ administration is on the spot after failing to account for Ksh. 421 million bursary money that was disbursed in the financial year 2018/2019.
This is according to a report by the Auditor General that is currently being examined by the Nairobi County Assembly PAC committee.
In the report Nairobi county government has not provided documents showing how the money was spent.
Appearing before PAC on Monday, education accountant Rogers Mokami said the educations department only handled paper work but all financial matters pertaining bursaries were handled by the finance department.
‘‘I can only confirm that we spent 367 million but for the 421 million shillings, I don’t have an answer ,the treasury is responsible they are the ones who channeled the funds.’’ Rogers said.
PAC chair Wilfred Odalo ordered the education officers, procurement and finance officials to appear before the committee once again on Wednesdays this week armed with all the evidence showing how the money spent.
‘’Members, Nairobi residents must know the truth. 421 million is a not pocket change, we want to ask all those named officers to appear before us on Wednesday without fail .’’ Odalo said in his ruling.
