Defending Champions Bandari FC will kick off their title defence with a date against Lamu-based Tezo fc in the GOtv shield tournament set to kick off on June 25th.
This year’s Gotv Shield Tournament which has been snubbed by three premier League clubs has attracted sixty four teams drawn from all over the country who will battle out for the 2 million shillings cash price.
Mathare United, Sofapaka and Nairobi City Stars were missing in the draw that was conducted in the Supersport offices.
Thirteen Kenya Premier League clubs and 16 nation wide sides as well as administration Police ,Fresha and fortune sacco from the lower leagues based on their performance will be competing to represent the country in the next year’s Caf confedarion cup.
League champions Gor Mahia will host Mahakama Mombasa, while 2013 winners AFC Leopards will visit Mumbi Nationale in their opening match.
The with the highlight of the first round being the clash pitting Nakuru All Stars against Bidco United.
Meanwhile Football Kenya Federation (FKF) will be running an alternative competition to accomodate clubs not able to meet caf conditions on licencing.
“The CAF licensing rules are being implemented from next year and we understand that a number of our clubs will not be able to make it,” said Mwendwa.
“The competition will run alongside Gotv Shield”.
Teams are required to be licenced before taking part in any Caf competitions.
