After recently making history with Sportpesa Premier League (SPL) champions Gor Mahia, captain Jerim Onyango has set his eyes on a bigger prize.
With an illustrious glitzy spell with the most successful club in Kenya, the prolific shot-stopper who led Gor to history books last season when they became the first team in the 16-team league format to clinch the top tier for the third year running.
Having organized the Jerim Onyango tournament for three years, Ghetto Radio Sports has learnt that the custodian is eyeing the Member of County Assembly (MCA) post for the Ugunja Ward.
Jerim who was speaking to a local site said that the decision to run for the political post is spurred by the need to bring a posistive change for the people of Ugunja.
“My decision to go into politics is borne from the willingness by my people to bring change in this area and they also crave for good leadership.
“Many of them have told me since I joined Gor Mahia they have seen the leadership I have provided and what I have done for the club they love and I took really long to reflect on this before making the decision,” Jerim told Soka.co.ke
“Personally, I have worked with people closely, I encourage openness in all I do and I am the kind of leader, who puts people first, just like my campaign motto states. The people should always come first, and as a leader I know am more of a servant to the people, a vehicle to ensure they have a good life.” He further added.
“There are a lot of things I think should be done and the empowerment is there but you see the people entrusted to do these things are not playing their part. I am confident that I will change my people’s lives if given the chance.
Jerim skippered K’Ogalo to the league title, DSTV Cup, KPL Top 8 Tournament and to the finals of the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup title last season.
