In the Deejay Mix battle saw 7 finalists among them being Ghetto Radio’s Gospel Dj, Dj Ruff a di Captain who beat all possible odds and took the prestigious Most Gifted Dj Crown; the title was accompanied by issuing a Deejay equipment worth over Ksh 600,000, 5 paid Safaricom events this year and a fully customised website.
The desire to see his art touch lives while serving God dates back. He got inspired out of secular deejaying in campus.
Raphael Nyamu alias DJ Ruff discovered his talent of mixing while in high school, thanks to Virtual DJ which quickly became an obsession he dedicated most of his free time to. After KCSE, he took up an IT job to source funds for skills at Spinrej DJ Academy.
The Economics and Statistics graduate put aside his papers for the decks and joined System Unit, before launching a solo career. Today, he has two gospel shows on Ghetto Radio, has a Teeniez and Mwafaka Awards and a Groove Awards nomination.
The 28 year old dreams of playing his own Afrobeat on international platforms and says it means a lot to him when a fan gives his/her life to Christ through his deejaying ministry, he adds it’s easily the best moment in his career.
