General Mwathethe bids Kenya Army farewell Hands over to General Robert Kibochi
Outgoing Chief of the Defense Forces, General Samson Mwathethe has officially bid farewell to the Kenya Army handing over power to General Robert Kibochi.
During his arrival at the event hosted at the Department of defense headquarters in Nairobi, General Mwathethe was received by Commander Lieutenant General Walter Raria.
The event marks the end of the tenure of General Samson Mwathethe, who served for one term (4 years) plus an additional year that was extended by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
During the event, General Mwathethe also launched a book calling on use of soft power to defeat Al-Shabaab in his last official act as Chief of Defence Forces.
The book titled War for Peace Kenya’s Military in the African Mission in Somalia, 2012-2020 takes a long view of the past, present and future of the Kenyan troops in Africa’s trail-brazing response to violent extremism in the wider context of the rapidly changing geopolitical environment in the Horn.”
In his speech Incoming KDF chief Robert Kibochi described General Samson Mwathathe as a true mentor thanking him for his leadership.
“I will personally remember your calmness in the face of challenges. Your concern for the welfare of personnel will continue to inspire us… to continue the good work and raise KDF to higher levels. I am profoundly honored for this opportunity to lead the fine men and women of the force. I undertake to do it diligently.” Said Kibochi
President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday last week promoted Lt Robert Kibochi to the rank of General and appointed him Chief of Defence Forces. Kibochi served as the vice CDF during Mwathethe’s tenure.
