Police on Tuesday night arrested four suspected thugs who were attempting to steal money from a Barclays Bank ATM in Ruiru.
The thugs namely 37 year old Hillary Ng’eno from KK Security, 31 year old Jared Nyang’au from G4S, 34 year old Douglas Momanyi and 43 year old Jacob Barasa had allegedly planned to load the money in a nylon sack.
Their plans were however thwarted by police who found them attempting to empty the ATM.
Police recovered a mobile phone they were using to communicate, a nylon bag and a motorcycle they were planning to use in the escape.
The four have been placed in custody as investigations continue.
The arrests come just a few days after two security guards and another civilian were arrested for being part of a criminal ring stealing money from ATMs.
The two guards were being used by their accomplice who would send them codes which they would use to withdraw money from the ATMs.
In September alone the suspects had reportedly sent over Ksh. 2,000,000 to their accomplice after deducting their shares.
