More than 1200 participants are expected to participate in the Sotokoto Safari half Marathon that will start and end at Uhuru Gardens on Sunday.
First Lady Margaret Kenyatta,though is not to participate,will flag off the 21km men’s and women’s Elite race at 7:30am.
The wheelchair race and the 21km races will both begin at the same time with the while the 5km kid’s race will get underway at 7:45am.
The professional wheelchair race is featuring for the first time in the 6th Edition of the Sotokoto Safari Half Marathon aimed at raising funds to develop one of its schools which is located in Kibera and to change the socio-economic outlook of impoverished children in the slum campaign.
The Sixth Edition of the Sotokoto half marathon comes after a two year long break following the Tsunami that hit Japan in 2014 as the (Japanese) sponsors opted to support the victims.
A situation that has prompted the organizers to set a target of 1200 participants in this year’s race.
There are changes to the route.The Lang’ata road at the Carnivore Junction and the southern bypass to Ngong road junction will be closed.
The Sotokoto Safari Half Marathon comes at a time when Eldoret is hosting trials for the Rio Olympic Kipchoge Keino Stadium.
