First Lady Launches IAAF World U18 Championships Website

Her Excellency the First Lady, Margaret Kenyatta has launched the International Athletics Association (IAAF) world under 18 championships website.

The launching took place at the Safaricom Stadium Kasarani where the initiative is meant to popularize the event  .

It is also expected to market the country to the more than 150 nations that will participate in the junior championships set to kick off in Nairobi in July.

The forum is put in place to guide visitors that will visit the country for the first time as well.

“I take this opportunity to appreciate the Local Organizing Committee for the effort put in to see that the IAAF world under 18 championships happens successfully,it is a significant and a historic event not only to the nation but to East African region in general,”she stated.

Sports and culture cabinet secretary Dr. Hassan Wario stated that the forum that will make it easier for the expected visitors to socialize and interact.

“My regards go to all  that participated in the creation and designing of the  website.This forum will guide the visitors and athletes will be able to interact and socialize easily in the process as there will be a common communication platform for all,” Wario said.

Athletics Kenya president Rtd.Gen Jackson Tuwei  commended Kenya for its  good record in the championships since its establishment in 1999 and was attended by 151 countries in which Kenya became first.

“Kenya has a good record in the IAAF world under 18 championships and with no doubt the history will repeat itself as we are in preparations for the event,”Tuwei said.

Kenya will host the IAAF world u-18 championships in July 2017 despite some countries withdrawing from the competitions.

The initiative taken by Athletics Kenya and the government is termed as a way to tell the world that the country is set for the event according to the speakers.
