Federation of Women Lawyers Kenya FIDA has opposed a petition before high court by Doctor Tetu to disband the Female Genital Mutilation board saying it is ill-advised.
Addressing the media today FIDA argues that the board is critical and has assisted many Kenyan children and women in the fight against FGM.
FIDA chairperson Josphine Mong’are stated that she hopes the court will throw out the petition as it will paralyse the anti-FGM campaign in the country.
Tetu want board disbanded and FGM act repealed to allow girls undergo their traditional cuts at their wish.
Meanwhile FIDA is also raising concerns over growing number of gender based violance reported daily at their offices with more women affected.
Mongare says in a day they receive 3-4 cases women assaulted at different family levels.
She wants the government not to relax its joints in fighting the vice.
