In their quest to reclaim their grabbed playing field Embakasi East residents have witten to the County of Nairobi to help revert it back to its intended use.
The residents had complained that the field has been encroached on and turned into a dumping site.
According to Embakasi Basketball player Jasper Ochieng the field has been very important for the youth in the area as most of them have gotten employment opportunities using the game despite keeping the youth fit and busy.
He said they stopped using the pitch after their team was adopted by Kenya Airways in 2010 so they moved to a better court owned by the airline.
Ochieng said that due to cash constraints the company withdrew their sponsorship hence they had to come back to their field whereby they found that it had been turned into a dumping site and structures erected.
The move to seek the intervention of the County was ignited by Julius Owino “Maji Maji” a resident of Embakasi Estate a passionate basketballer who led the youth to write a letter to seek their intervention.
Owino said that he had to intervene after the youths form the area approached him hence he saw the need to try and help.
The letter has been received by Embakasi East Sub County Admin who has promised to look in the matter.
Efforts by the youth in the area has bore no fruit as the residents say that the local leaders have turned a blind eyo on their plea.
The youth claim that they have tried to seek the intervention of the Area MP john Omondi and Member O f County Assembly Michael Ogada but they have not gotten help.
