Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu’s method of fighting alcohol and drug has been faulted by a section of area residents.
Nicholas Kigunyu a cobbler in Githurai 45 says he has tried to quit using drugs even going to rehab twice but he still finds himself dependent on alcohol because alcohol and bhang is still easily available and affordable in the street
Nicholas who has been abusing alcohol and bhang for close to 14 years says it takes more than admission to rehabilitation centers to get rid of alcohol abuse.
He claims his repeated abuse of alcohol is as a result of the availability and ready supply of drug dens in the area.
He says that he has lost most of his friends to alcohol and continues to lose more if a solution is not found to fight the continuous abuse of drugs among the youth in this area.
Governor Waititu has been paying alcohol addicts 400 shillings daily to do manual jobs like clearingg bushes and trenches as well as collecting garbage.
This move has put Waititu at logger heads with his county members who claim spending over 2 million shillings daily to pay addicts is a waste of resources.
