Drinking Alcohol In Office Among 10 Reasons MCAs Want To Impeach Sonko
By Allan Otieno
Makongeni MCA Peter Imwatok has moved a motion in the assembly to impeach governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko.
In his motion Hon. Imwatok has accused Sonko of corruption, gross misconduct and abuse of office and incompetence.
“The governor has failed to appoint the Deputy Governor since Polycarp Igathe left and this has put the county in a huge leadership crisis,” said Imwatok.
“He inflated the Dandora Stadium by Ksh. 100 million, …the AAR Ksh. 1.7 billion contract for county workers were irregularly given,” he said.
Imwatok also wants Sonko impeached over failure to collect garbage and keeping Nairobi County, lack of a proper revenue system and drinking alcohol in the office.
Sonko has also been accused of issuing fake title deed, closure of Lands and Planning of Offices that has hindered collection of revenue and constant reshuffle and suspension of county officials affecting service delivery.
Meanwhile the majority leader Charles Thuo says that he will oppose the motion adding that Sonko is innocent and he will ensure that they defend the governor when the motion shall be debated upon.
“I am not supporting this impeachment and as directed by the speaker we shall scrutinize all the signatures to ensure that we discuss a genuine motion,” Thuo said.
Meanwhile the house now has seven days before debating the motion on the floor.
The governor will also have the opportunity to defend himself before the members and before final voting.
