People Living with Disability in Nairobi City County are now blaming the Nairobi City County government for not adhering to the 5% employment act of People Living With Disability.
In a petition presented to Nairobi County Labour Committee at Charter Hall the group through their leader Joel Maingi also accused the county askaris of harassing the disabled who are doing hawking business in the Central Business District.
‘‘No disabled person gets these county jobs and appointments and we want to ask governor Sonko to ensure our rights are protected on matters employment.’’ He said.
According to them it has become extremely difficult for any disable to do business in the CBD and that most of their space has been dished out to able people as they languish in poverty.
‘‘Ask those who are selling sweets in the CBD they will explain better, these askris come all the time and extort from us.’’ Maingi added.
Meanwhile they have called on Orange Democratic Movement Party to recall the nomination of Husni Mohammed Alawi at County Assembly saying the MCA representing them has gone mute on their issues.
They claim the ODM Party nominated Husni without confirming whether he is disable or not.
Husni has reportedly not attended assembly sessions more than 8 months without reasons.
He is believed to be very close to ODM top leadership and enjoys massive support from the party.
