Detectives at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport have seized 500 kilograms of dry miraa that believed to be destined for the U.S. and Australia.

The miraa which had been packaged as tea packets was seized at the airport on Monday.

The officers have since arrested one suspect in connection with the seizure.

The miraa had been packaged in 52 bags and were detected during screening.

Kenya Revenue Authority officials had issued a seizure notice on the goods after they were found to be miraa.

Last week, police seized 12kg heroin concealed in containers of two radio speakers.

The consignment which was declared as traditional baskets and sandals, was destined for Monrovia-Liberia and had been delivered for export by a clearing agent.
