Death toll from Legio Maria chaos rises to eight
Death toll from fighting between rival groups in the Legio Maria faith has risen to eight.
This is after three more succumbed to gun shot wounds they sustained during the fracas in God Kweru Migori County during their annual pilgrimage.
Trouble started when the rivaling factions one led by Raphael Adika and that of Raphael Ochieng clashed when Adika’s team attempted to access the shrine.
Ochieng’s group then started pelting them with stones causing the chaos.
A car was torched and several police vehicles pelted with stones as two groups of faithful engaged in an intense fight over the control of Got Kwer shrine, which has been in dispute for years.
A police officer who was also injured in the chaos was rushed to the Migori County Referral Hospital.
