Kenya’s second President Daniel arap Moi turns 92 Friday.
He was born on September 2, 1924 in Sacho, Baringo, and named after his father Kimoi arap Chebii.
He was baptised and named Daniel on October 20, 1936. Moi took over the reins of power after President Jomo Kenyatta died in his sleep at State House, Mombasa.
He retired from politics in 2002 after serving as President for 24 years.
Moi was popularly knowns as “Nyayo”, a Swahili word for “footsteps”, as he said he was following in Kenyatta’s footsteps.
