An elderly woman in Nairobi’s Kiamaiko area is appealing for help for help from the government to get back her land which has allegedly been grabbed by a Somali private developer.
Rosemary Waithera says her land of over 50 years was grabbed by the private developer who is currently constructing a mosque.
The plot under dispute had 21 houses inclusive of which 16 were rented and four she used as residential houses for herself and her sons and daughters.
Speaking to Ghetto Radio News Waithera says the private developer hired goons who invaded her house in April when she had gone to seek help from Governor Mike Sonko over the property.
“They came with pangas, broke doors, some destroyed the roofs. All this was happening when i was at Governor Sonko’s place, so when i came back home, i found everything destroyed leaving me with nowhere to sleep. I had to go look for a place to spend the night,” narrated Waithera.
She says that apart from leaving her homeless the destruction also left her without property as she lost every single thing she had accumulated all her years.
“I do not even know what to say because i lost my goats, my chicken that i had kept in the compound. I used to wash clothes for people to earn a living, even those closed got destroyed leaving me with nothing,” she stated amid tears.
She says that she has used more than Ksh. 250,000 on a lawyer who is now playing hide and seek games with her.
