The opening of a renovated Nairobi County Assembly chambers was Tuesday morning delayed after President Kenyatta failed to attend despite confirming.
The function, which was set to begin at 9am, had not started an hour later.
Sources at City Hall said President Kenyatta cancelled his schedule in the morning noting that he was busy elsewhere.
Public Accounts chairman Robert Mbatia said that the changes regarding invited guests had delayed the event.
He added that Deputy President William Ruto was to preside over the function but cancelled after CORD Members of County Assembly (MCAs) threatened to walk out.
The new assembly, chambers were renovated as a replica of the National Assembly, was to be officiated by President Kenyatta but was cancelled following a controversy with the opposition .
Cord MCAs had threatened to heckle the President after the leadership of the assembly failed to invite Raila Odinga.
However, the Jubilee MCAs are still held in a closed meeting to discuss the unfolding events.
