Chelsea manager Antonio Conte told his players to keep their feet on the ground and keep focus after they edged West Ham 2-1 on Monday to widen the gap at the top of the log.The Italian manager however issued a warning to his players to be more cautious as the league is far from over.
“We must think we have to take 26 points. We go step by step,” said Conte. The Monday’s win sees the Blues lead second-placed Tottenham by 10 points with 11 games left. The spurs look to be on course in catching up with the Stamford Bridge based side in the race of clinching the title.
Conte took over from sacked manager Jose Mourinho as the blues head coach and so far he has impressed. In his debut for the Premier League season, the Italian said; “We must think every opponent will want to beat us from now until the end.”
The manager says that dreaming is good but the players have to put their feet on the ground till the last premier league match. The league campaign ends in May and until that day,the tactician insists the blues should stay on truck.
Chelsea recorded its 21st league win by beating the Hummers at home.Despite the great achievement,Conte was however disappointed with his side by conceding against West Ham late in the match.
“We must improve in this situation, but I’m pleased. We showed great concentration and commitment and will to win.To give away a clean sheet at the end is not good,” Conte said.
Eden Hazard put the league leaders ahead on the 25th minute mark following a counter attack engineered by the new signing N’golo Kante. The Spanish finisher Diego Costa then made it 2-0 early in the second half.
However, Manuel Lanzini stepped up at stoppage time to strike for the hosts handing them a consolation goal.
