Harambee Starlets coach David Ouma has added four new players to his squad ahead of the Cecafa Women Football Championship.
Lilian Awuor (Nyakach Girls), Lilian Adera (Vihiga Queens) ,Jackline Akoth (Makolanders) and Judith Musimbi are the fresh faces joining the women’s squad leaving for Uganda on Friday.
With Coach Ouma hoping for a win to secure a place in the tournament scheduled for September 11-20 he says the four players’ experience will be vital in this competition.
“I believe the introduction of the new players in the team will see us through”.
The COTIF tournament was an eye opener. We are a little bit short but in a few areas and I believe that the new players will deliver.Their experience is going to be an asset.”
Ouma spotted two of the new faces from the recently concluded East Africa School Games in Eldoret while the other two are from league sides.
Ouma who has a total of 29 players says his first task will be to qualify for the knockout stages.
He however does not see the tournament as a pressure on his squad but a motivation.
“We have won in most of the competition we have taken part in and that gives us the motivation do push harder. The Starlets have grown and become much stronger thereby I belive we are going for a win”.
On her part Harambee Star Captain believes that the team is under pressure and that there is much expectation from fans.
The Starlets are grouped alongside Uganda, Burundi and Zanzibar and will be facing hosts Uganda in their first game on Sunday September 11.
CECAFA Championship will be as a preparation for the Starlets for the Africa Women Cup of Nations in Cameroon scheduled for later this year.
