The celebrated Kenyan Champions Gor Mahia are facing a big blow after CAF suspends its two main players ahead of Sunday’s Caf Confederation Cup match against New Stars de Douala of Cameroon at Kasarani stadium.
The two players Captain Haron Shakava and Joash Onyango will be facing disciplinary actions after allegedly behaving in unlawly manner during their first round of the Caf Champions League with Lobi Stars of Nigeria at Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium last month.
According to a letter posted on Gor Mahia’s official portal on Thursday, Joash Onyango is said to have used an abusive language against the match referee while his counterpart Harun Shakava is accused of being involved in a physical altercation with Lobi Stars’ goalkeeper, John Lawrence.
“Reports indicate that player no. 12 JoashOnyango came towards the referee at the end of the match and insulted him with abusive language,”the letter stated.
“Furthermore, the goalkeeper of Lobi Stars, John Lawrence (16) slapped player no. 18 HaronShakava of GorMahia who then went to kick back the goalkeeper. The referee was about to show them red cards yet the referees were evacuated by the police due to the pitch invasion”.
The two main players will be forced to sit out of the home match on Sunday pending the hearing and determination of their case after Caf’s disciplinary meeting set for Sunday, January 13, in Cairo, Egypt.
