Traders at the Burma market in Nairobi breathed a sigh of relief today after the National Environment Management Authority failed to shut it down as earlier threatened.
Burma Market Secretary General Peter O. Says NEMA failed to act on the closure notice after meeting the market leaders who promised to ensure that plastic bags are not used in the market.
He said that the NEMA officials will also do an investigation in the evening to determine the cleanliness of the market.
He also said that they have an agreement that they will implement regulations and deal with those who will be found using the carrier bags
