Bunge la mwananchi,a country wide lobby group ,has now threatened to storm Nairobi county assembly over alleged misuse of bursary funds for needy students by a section of MCAs .
Led by Bunge la Mwananchi chairman Henry Shitanda they say some honorable members have turned the bursary fund into cash-cow where they fraudulently milk county funds meant for bursaries.
Those implicated in the scam include Makongeni MCA Peter Jateso Imwatok who is said to be using Kobudho educational centre and Kitusuru MCA Alvin Palala of Kitusuru ward who is said to be using NR Savo limited.
‘‘We have a watertight evidence that Kobudho educational center has received close to 17 million shillings bursary funds in Makangeni alone and we are ready to meet them in court,’’ Shitanda said
Meanwhile Imwatok has defended himself from the claims saying the allegations are being propagated by governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko to taint his image.
According to him he has never touched a single shilling of the public and if anyone has evidence then he is ready to defend himself in court.
‘‘Am not being investigated by EACC or DCI and Sonko should tell Nairobians how Nairobi county’s Sh297.5 million bursary funds were “mistakenly” sent to a bank account in Maryland, Australia,’’ Imwatok said.
Imwatok is known to be a fierce critic of governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko.
