Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has asked the Independent Policing Oversight Authority to investigate the killing of a 23 year old Leeds University student.

Carlton Maina was shot on Sunday morning by police in Kibera’s Laini Saba area.

Police claim he was among a group of thugs terrorizing residents in the area hence the shooting.

His family however says that Maina who was on December holiday was coming from a movie shop before the fatal.

Boinnet has now asked IPOA to expedite the shooting. He says the report on the killings will be made public.

“We further wish to assure the public that the Service, just like in similar instances in the past, will enforce the outcome of the investigations that IPOA will recommend,” said Bonnet.

Maina’s family says he was a bright student who scored an A plain at Mesno School.

He was then admitted to Leeds University on scholarship.
