Boda Boda Association of Kenya has expressed the frustrations of Boda boda operators in acquiring insurance covers for their motorbikes.
Bodaboda Association of Kenya Secretary General Kennedy Onyango says that most insurance companies do not want to cover motorbikes due to the high rate of accidents.
Onyango further alleged that the insurance companies have always failed to compensate accident victims despite being covered in the motorbike that have caused accidents.
“The companies often dodge claims and in the long run they leave the people suffering,” said Onyango.
“We are transporting so many people in a day therefore the work we do is important and we dont want to be underatted , we want to be recognized by the insurance companies. By the way insurance act does not recognie bodaboda as a means of public transport” he added.
He has further urged the government to consider subsidizing the insurance cost because it will impact the economy positively.
