Police arrested the production manager of Africa Spirits Ltd on Friday over illegal ethanol and fake Kenya Revenue Authority stamps.

Investigators from Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and the DCI stormed the firm during an inspection in Thika town.

Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti said that a manhunt for the owner and other senior staff has been launched.

The detectives seek to know how the firm has been smuggling ethanol from Tanzania and sourcing the fake KRA stamps.

The 11am operation included Inspector-General of Police Joseph Boinnet and KRA’s commissioner of intelligence and strategic operations Githii Mburu.

African Spirits Limited is a manufacture of common brands such as Glen Rock, Legend Black, Blue Moon, Legend Brandy, Gypsy King and Furaha.

They also distribute foreign whiskeys Southern Comfort, Famous Grouse and Bacardi rum

The plant has since been closed.
