Doctors Union has met the Kenyatta National Hospital Management over a brain surgery admitted on a patient by a neurosurgeon at the hospital.

The meeting comes even as different groups continue to shift blames on each other over horrifying mistake that has seen staff at the hospital interdicted.

Doctors have defended their colleague saying the nurses who prepared the patient for surgery are the ones at fault for wrongly labelling the two patients.

Kenya National Union of nurses secretary General Seth Panyako has however absolved the nurses from the mistake blaming the hospital’s management for the mistake.

Panyako says the mistake came because of a system problem that has come up due to lack of proper staffing at the hospital.

Kenyatta National Hospital has suspended a neurosurgeon a ward nurse, a theatre receiving nurse and an anaesthetist.

“The hospital deeply regrets this event and has done all it can to ensure the safety and well-being of the patient in question. We are happy to inform the public that the patient is in recovery and progressing well,” KNH CEO Lilly Koros said.
