The Bible Society of Kenya on Sunday 9th September launched a USSD *288# at the Redeemed Gospel Church in Huruma, Nairobi.
The launch is part of the Society’s commitment to avail Scriptures to all Christians in an easy and innovative way irrespective of their geographical location and economic ability.
An average bible has about 1,800 pages and costs Kshs 870 (the cheapest book of its size in the market). However, most low income earners struggle to raise Kshs 870 to purchase a Bible.
To cater for the above mentioned demand, BSK have built a mobile phone USSD platform which will allow customers purchase bibles of their choice in installments and at their own pace within a duration of one year.
Speaking during the launch, Elizabeth Muriuki, General Secretary & CEO of Bible Society Of Kenya said “the move was guided by the high penetration of mobile phone use and the high demand of Bibles across the country.
Annie Mwirikia, BBK’s Marketing & Communication Manager, added they have a Adult Literacy Program where they reach out to women and youth who never went to school and mentor them, with their pilot program now in Turkana, Narok and Pokot.
