Marcus Rodriguez who landed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Sunday was in the country to meet his girlfriend Esylovians Meli.
Rodrigues and Emeli met back in 2017 when he first visited the country.
The couple is said to have argued about where he should stay during his visit before Emeli convinced him to stay at DusitD2 because its closer to town.
“I regret making him change his mind. He could be alive now if I had not put my foot down on having him stay at dusitD2,” said Emeli
The third-year student at Kenyatta University was among hundreds of anxious friends and relatives who had thronged Chiromo mortuary to identify the bodies of their slain loved ones.
“I insisted on the hotel because it was easily accessible for me from town. I checked him in on Sunday night,” she added
Emeli said that Rodriguez had called her moments after the terrorists stormed the hotel but she missed the call because she was in class and her phone was on silent.
The distraught lady recounted how she received a call from her boyfriend at around 1:00 am telling her about the terrorists in the building. The call only lasted four minutes and that is the last time she heard from him.
