Gor begin title defence with a barren draw

KO’gallo and Chemelil at the Launch of the League at the Moi Stadium Kisumu

Gor Mahia proved just how difficult it is to cope without two of their last season’s top scorer after they were held by Chemelil to a barren draw at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu.

KO’gallo launched the match without the team’s key players , Meddie Kagere who declined to renew his contract and Michael Olunga who is currently attending trials in Sweden.
Coach Frank Nutall had made some changes to his line-up in setting the scene, Jacob Keli started from the bench and was replaced by Francis Kahata.
Godfrey Walusimbi and Bonface Oluoch were completely absent from the squad list due to injury and in their places Fredrick Onyango and Ronald Omino got the starting nod.

KO’gallo’s troubles began when they entered the match with a 2-1 home defeat by Madascan side CnaPS in an opening leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary round last Saturday.

Then, there was Gor Mahia’s head coach Frank Nuttall who allegedly was detained at Serena Hotel, Nairobi, over unpaid bills amounting to Sh293,000 and had to be left behind by the team who arrived in Kisumu on Tuesday.Nuttal denied the allegations saying they were fabrications.
Gor Mahia have scored just one goal in two competitive matches and proved that they are clearly struggling to score goals.
